Welcome to Little Black Dog

At Little Black Dog, we're passionate about brewing beer that's packed full of flavour.

Our beers are unpasteurised, unfiltered & unfined, all carefully hand crafted in our family run brewery.

We create fresh, living, full flavoured craft beers for people who love beer, just as much as we do.

Please don't hesitate to get in touch, we'd love to hear from you.

Being in the doghouse has never felt so good

Selby's dedicated craft beer café

While our main focus is beer, we also offer cider, wine, spirits, coffees

and soft drinks. There's always a range of savouries and cakes to give you a little comforting hug whilst you're enjoying your chosen indulgence with us.

We feature regular weekend street food vendors cooking in-house, offering fantastic fresh food temptations from around the world to compliment our drink offerings. Wake up those taste buds!

Every weekend we host pop-up music events in The Doghouse. There's regular social events & meetings held upstairs during the week. Please feel free to pop-in and participate, we'd love to meet you.

Great beer, amazing street food, good music & relaxed socialising.

It's your call ~ just ease back and chill with us.

We believe that our keg lines and cask range are guaranteed to include something that'll grab the attention of even the most jaded beer drinker.

Our house staff (aka "friends") are knowledgeable yet approachable, always willing to spend time with you exploring some of those mind-churning craft beer terms that often come attached to beer styles.  They'll help you and your taste buds explore the depths of the craft beer world. At the end of your visit you'll be able to grab some take-home souvenirs to "discover" more of those new tastes.

Review from "The Taverner", Yorkshire Post

Type: Stylish cafe and alehouse

The Doghouse, a lovely craft beer bar which opened in 2018 to provide a ready shop window for beers from The Little Black Dog Brewery in Carlton. Bar and brewery are symbiotic, a perfect family eco-system.

The premises used to be a restaurant, and the family were quick off the mark when they heard that it was set to close. “We knew the people here and we were looking for somewhere to get our beers into. It can be quite hard to get your beer into pubs, when so many are tied to breweries or pub companies – and there are so many small brewers trying to get into freehouses.”

So the Doghouse proved a perfect solution, filling an obvious hole in the Selby scene, while offering Little Black Dog a guaranteed route to market. Some serious hard work was required prior to opening, to create this quirky and welcoming watering hole. One wall is devoted to a vast array of chemical symbols and bonds, each related to brewing, others have a whimsical nautical theme, while lyrics sung by artists from Frank Sinatra to the Sex Pistols are incorporated into every nook and cranny of the designs. It’s a work in progress which reveals an artistic bent to this family’s talents.

“We get a lovely lot of regular customers,” says Christine, who also lays on cakes and coffees for those not drawn to the ale. A room upstairs is available for private hire; the proximity of the Abbey makes it perfect for Christenings. Open mic nights and live music events add a further dimension, while on my visit Christine was just putting the finishing touches to the questions for the pub’s first quiz night.

“This has become my favourite place in Selby,” one female customer tells me. “I bring my book, and have a cup of tea and a cake. It’s perfect.”

"right in the heart of Selby"

"Absolutely fantastic craft beer bar. Cask and keg selections galore, also plenty of spirits and wines for non beer heathens! Great family owned place, check it out!"

"The Dog House has already made it onto our favourites list. Hop off the bus or train and you're there!  Also a great place to visit before you pop next door for a curry."

"Selby is very lucky to have its own brewery pub with beers made just up the road at Carlton Towers.

Pop in, you won't be disappointed."

"Beautiful beers, and even better staff! Friendly, polite and such a great atmosphere! Can't go wrong"
